Ruth E. Thaler-Carter has been a professional writer for more than 30 years, starting with writing a newspaper column in high school. She has been published locally, regionally, nationally and internationally in newspapers, magazines, newsletters, and websites and blogs. She also has edited several fiction and nonfiction books and produced résumés, press releases, brochures, and advertising and marketing copy.

Ruth also edits and proofreads for magazines, law firms, a national PR firm, professional associations, businesses, nonprofit organizations, individual authors and more. She has self-published a booklet about being a freelance writer and has edited, designed and helped with publishing a mystery book for an independent author and booklets for a professional association. She also has edited self-publishing authors books about real estate, living with dementia and more, as well as a memoir by a local artist.

Ruth is a popular presenter of in-person speeches and workshops and of webinars for professional groups such as the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), Society for Technical Communication (STC), American Copy Editors Society (ACES), Cat Writers Association, Writers and Books, and more. Her topics include freelancing, basics of editing and proofreading, websites for freelancers, and grammar.

Ruth received a Big Pencil Award from Writers and Books in 2015 for her teaching and contributions to literature and has received other awards for her writing, editing and newsletter work. She was one of Brighton Connections magazine's 2016 "Inspiring Women of Our Community."

Ruth is also the owner of Communication Central (www.communication-central.com), which has hosted an annual "Be  Better Freelancer"® conference for colleagues since 2006.
